Books to you program

Books to You provides services by matching our senior community to one-on-one volunteer delivery and provides outreach collections to nursing homes, retirement centers, and senior citizen centers throughout the county

I've started volunteering for this group at the library. Right now I deliver books to a young lady that has difficulty walking. I pick out books for her based on what she likes to read. I then go to the library, get the books and take them to her and pick them us when she is finished with them. Since I love reading seems like a perfect fit for me.

Wineries of Ste. Genevieve

Our trip include 2 of the local wineries: Chaumette and Crown Valley.

the view from Chaumette patio, it would be great to sit here in the summer and have wine and cheese
St. Vincents in the Vineyard, a little Episcopal chapel at Chaumette removed from a retreat center in St. Louis and rebuild at the winery.
Inside St. Vincents, after service the congregation walks down the hill to have lunch at the winery.
The Crown valley vineyards. We had a wine flight tasting of 5 different wines of our choice.

My pick was the Vignoles, a light and fresh palate with tropical fruit flavors and a long, clean, slightly sweet finish. (description off the tasting list) along with a glass from the winery. Will save this for a special occasion, since its cost was more than I would ever spend on a bottle of wine.

Ste. Genevieve Church

this church was build in 1876, in the Gothic style like those in France of this time.
The first Ste. Genevieve church was built out of logs in 1795.
Francois La Valle was the first commandant of the city and is buried in the church as is his son, Francois Valle II and his wife.

Ste. Genevieve

My city has day trips several times a year to different places. I've always wanted to take one but I was always working. Since I'm not working any longer I have the opportunity to go on these trips. Ste. Genevieve is about 2 hours from my city. We enjoyed a walking tour of the small French Colonial city with its many preserved buildings, family style lunch at a local café, and a side trip to 2 wineries in the area.

My first one was to the historic city of Ste. Genevieve settled in the 1740's mostly by French-Canadians.
One of the houses we saw was the Bolduc House, built by the richest man in Ste. Genevieve Louis Bolduc around 1792.

The timbers were place vertically instead of horizontally like most timber homes of the times. This style is called poteaux-sur-sol. The sill was laid down on a stone foundation and the vertical logs placed on top of it.
The home of Felix Valle built in 1818. This home was a mercantile store on one side and living quarters for the family on the other.
The mercantile store features authentic items from that period

Bookclub

My first entertaining at my new apartment was my bookclub. I reserved the apartment's common area for us. I've been a member for 2 years and have enjoyed reading and discussing the books. There were 4 members missing on this night; with this many people its hard to schedule a night that everyone can attend. We have appetizers, an entrée, dessert and beverages, mostly wine!
